Some Bed Time Snacks Can Be Good For You!

You’ve probably heard how late night eating will ruin your diet. Well, surely if you’re chowing down a box of donuts or a bag of chips, it’s not going to help you lose weight. However, there are some foods that can help you stay on track while you sleep. The reason is, you need rest to stay fit. If you find yourself hungry before bedtime, have a snack. If you don’t, you’ll find yourself awake all night. If you’re lucky enough to get to sleep, you may find yourself overeating the following day.

The key to late night snacking, is to choose the right foods. You want to be sure to limit calorie consumption to about 200 calories or less. You don’t want your body working so hard to digest, otherwise that will keep you awake too. Foods with tryptophan, casein or potassium all promote sleep.

Foods to help sleep:

• Bananas
• Greek yogurt
• Honey
• Cherry juice
• Skim milk
• Turkey
• Peanut butter
• Whole wheat cereal
• Oatmeal
• Hard-boiled egg
• Pop corn
• Cottage cheese

Foods to avoid before bed:

• Caffeine
• Alcohol
• Large heavy meals
• Packaged snack foods
