How Mindfulness Supercharges Wellness

  • 2 min read
It's much more than an awareness or a little extra focus. We're talking about mindfulness, a little buzzword that's gained a lot of traction in the health and wellness world these days - and with good reason! Top athletes and health advocates are going on podcasts and other media these days to share how the practice helps them live a life of high health, achievement, and self-confidence. We couldn't possibly cover the entire habit in one blog post, but we certainly wanted to introduce the concept to anyone interested!

What is mindfulness?
The simple answer is that it may depend on who you ask. We'd define it with a series of similar phrases that might overlap or work for you: meditation, visualization, prayer, concentration, mental awareness, and more. What it boils down to is a dedicated practice that results in heightened awareness, clarity and commitment to whatever task lies before you.

Some people start with a simple reflection in the morning to channel their gratitude for the positive things in life. This realization then propels them into the day with optimism and excitement. Other people rely on deep breathing and traditional meditation exercises to release any mental blockers or stressors that may throw them off course. And still others may explore things like a sauna or yoga to align their lives with a deeper sense of calm and composure. Today, we'd like to invite you to try some of these out or find a practice that works for you.

Mindfulness and Wellness In Motion
What is it you'd like to achieve this week, month or year? Are you hoping to break a bad habit, curb your diet, get bigger and stronger or shed a few pounds? Or perhaps you simply want to start seeing the best in yourself instead of the weaknesses. Mindfulness can be a great resource for your journey. Don't be intimidated. For beginners, it can be as simple as internalizing your goals and stating them in your head to the rhythm of your breathing for 5 minutes a day. You can do it from home, in a quiet office or even while you're driving. A distraction-free place is best, but start where and when you can. You might try that for a week and then advance to basic visualization, aka playing a successful outcome out in your mind before it happens. If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. Visualize yourself on the scale and seeing your ideal weight or imagine yourself hitting that personal record in the gym. Over time, you'll find that you can build a mental fortitude than translates into physical success.

Again, this is just a teaser for a practice many people spend years to perfect. If you're up for a challenge, try out "Mindfulness Mondays". Invite some accountability partners into the mix and commit to a month of the practice. Every Monday you can meet up and share your high points and learnings with friends so everyone grows together!
